My Background

I completed 150-hour Esalen® massage in 2010 as taught by senior Esalen massage teachers Char Pias and Oliver Bailey and held at McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland. I have completed additional training in deep-tissue work with Perry and Johanna Holloman at Esalen. I am committed to continuing my massage education but already bring a a diverse mix of somatic experience to the table. As a lifetime athlete, an outdoor experiential educator, ski and canoe instructor, former EMT, and Body Electric assistant, there is a wealth of awareness already in these hands.

But don't just take my word for it, here is what some of my clients have said:

"As someone who usually thinks a massage has to be really painful to get anything done, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I left Amy's feeling completely blissed out and deeply deeply relaxed. The parts of my body that hold a lot of grief, tension, and anger had let go of something serious. My body was totally singing."

"From the first massage I had with Amy Butcher after her very first weekend of training, I could tell that she had an intuitive ability to work with the body. She was graceful, creative, responsive, and exploratory. Subsequent massages have all confirmed my feeling that Amy is a natural. This has been my first experience of Esalen massage and I have found Amy's integrative approach and grounded energy to be exactly what my body needed. I give my highest recommendations--try her out for yourself!"
-- S.D.

"This massage definitely passed the "drool test". Not only was I blissfully, unconsciously drooling by the time I flipped for the second half, but I was so relaxed it took me quite a while to realize when the massage had ended. Hello body! Amy is a natural and a very respectful listener. Highly recommended."
